PlanItUni is an early-stage startup aiming to be the AI platform for universities, helping students plan their schedules, get help with their homework, and with career prep.
I provided AI-focused software development services alongside their cross-functional team (across software engineering and design) to develop platform features aligned with business and product goals.
Some of the exciting features I helped bring to life include:
- AI Academic Advisor: a chat-based advisor that answers course selection and major-requirement questions in real time, grounded in the student's own academic profile (completed courses, major, progress) and pulled automatically from data sources like the university's Canvas LMS, rather than requiring manual form-filling.
- AI Schedule Builder: an intelligent scheduling tool that builds valid, conflict-free course combinations while accounting for each student's preferences (times, professor ratings, workload balance), and explains in plain language why a given schedule was recommended.
- Degree progress tracking: turns a student's transcript into a live view of exactly what's been completed and what's left across core, major, gen-ed, and elective requirements.
- Pre-grade assignments: gives students AI-estimated grades and rubric-level feedback on their work before submission, broken down across dimensions like thesis strength, evidence, and grammar, so they can improve before the deadline.
On the go-to-market side, I helped bring PlanItUni in as a partner for the Claude Hackathon at Indiana University, which I helped organize through Claude Builder Club during my time as Claude Builder Ambassador. The hackathon's AI theme and audience of 200+ student builders made it a natural fit, giving PlanItUni direct exposure to a concentrated group of prospective early users on a college campus.

Since then, the design system was improved a lot, giving the app a more modern look:
