Dumb Politics is an early stage startup aiming to make politics more accessible and transparent for Americans.

I worked as an independent full-stack SWE and technical consultant to develop their React Native mobile app from scratch, based on product requirements (PRDs) and Figma design systems, and owning the surrounding technical architecture.

That involved activities such as translating functional and non-functional requirements into scalable system architecture, advising on technology selection and implementation, and designing and implementing the application itself.

As for tech stack, we used some pretty interesting stuff, such as:

• Postgres with row-level security, alongside Supabase and AWS to power the typescript backend
• A "Legislative Engine" that keeps bills, representatives, and election data continuously up to date by aggregating and normalizing information from a mix of APIs and periodic public data collection
• A personalized recommendation system that surfaces the bills, representatives, and elections most relevant to each user based on their location and stated interests
• A natural-language search experience that lets users find what they're looking for across bills, reps, and elections just by describing it in plain English, without needing to know how the underlying data is organized
